I'll be in Abuja on Thursday, Sept. 24th. I thought to organize a
MeetUp of people interested in VC4Africa.
There will be no agenda and there is no budget. All we need is a time and a place, like a hotel bar -- outdoor garden space would be a plus.
I'd lean toward 6PM-…

I've been trying for sometime now to convince Tony Perkins that he ought to host one of his AlwaysOn events here on the Third Coast (or the Innovation Plantation ;-) . Until then -- enjoy:
GoingGreen West will take place September 14th - 16th, 2009, at Cavallo Point in San Francisco, CA. AlwaysOn will livecast and archive the entire event for free to online audiences. Powered by ViVu technology, webcast audiences will be able to engage directly with event attendees over twitter.…

Hey Everyone!
I'm interested if anyone has any ideas ready to pitch? Last year, I tossed out the idea for Assassins (now known as gpsAssassin) via the Blog/Forum - so now I'm hoping others will do the same :)
After experiencing last year's event, I now realize that you don't have to actually launch a prototype to be a success at the event - in fact, I really liked BarBoodle's approach (a team from last year) to create a business plan. They really thought through a LOT of…

Awesome Inc. - A coworking space + art studio + technology lab is hosting a mobile conference complete with speakers, booths, and an app pitch contest. They've got the former product manager for the original facebook mobile speaking, as well as a Yahoo! Blueprint presentation, and speakers on Google Android, Palm Pre, and of course the iPhone. There'll be a Mac lab on site and a workshop that will walk you through building your own iPhone app…

Proof that it can be done. My friend Nate participated on this project and still has stake in ownership.

I'd be interested to hear ideas regarding how we might continue to build and leverage this new community to help our businesses (and just because it's fun). I'm certain there's a member in the group who's a perfect buyer for my company's services but I'm not sure how I'd know that right now. Any ideas on how to help promote each other?

Startup Weekend Nashville
The weekend was a great success and brought together many excited participants from all types of backgrounds (Software engineers, financiers, business development, and graphic designers). The weekend was hosted by the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Business and Dr. Germain Boer, Director of Owen Entrepreneurship Center.
The weekend began with 70-80 ideas. The concepts were culled down to about 11 working companies. Six companies completed the…

Just a few quick notes of things I learned this past weekend, and what I will apply when I do it again.
1) You can never have enough developers. Ever. Ever. Ever.
2) Appoint someone on the team as the time keeper. Time is the killer in SW. Tell this person to announce the hours on the hours. If you can rough up a project plan on Friday, have this person own it and hold people accountable to it. I guess what I'm saying is you can never have enough project management. Ever. Ever.…

Well, good question.
Most of us either have or know stay-at-home moms. I know my wife is awesome and does amazing things as a stay-at-home mom, but she needs opportunities to meet and talk with other adults during the day. In the early days of our kids, there were several times that I came home and hear about how much she just needed to say something other than "baby-talk" saying how great it must be for me to go and work every day ... interacting with other adults.
Well, Pete,…

boo~d"l; slang, n. : Money accepted as a bribe.
barDOODLE started as a way to pop off to others in a bar about some poor guy driving at a deal slightly over his head.
The group consisting of Dale the Developer, David Ledgerwood, Kurt Strickmaker, Will Bridges, Josh Bledsoe, and Gerry Andrady instead decided to punch web 2.0 square in the mouf and actually shoot for revenue before building out the social aspect. The last time that was a popular concept half of the NSW…

Reflection is sometimes necessary and at the same time hard to get started...
My expectations for this weekend included meeting some brilliant people in my field of work. People who are working for competitors or companies outside my network of contacts in a collaborative and interesting setting. That goal was exceeded! There is some great talent and very, very bright people in Nashville.
I had an opportunity to work with three teams and was very impressed with many people…

If any of the team's need to see how a group of strangers can gather around a big idea and tackle a list of tasks look no further than Kraig Haberer and the ChowNow team. "ChowNow is going to happen," exclaims Haberer.
The team consisting of Don England, Melissa Harris, Peter Rousos, Tim Neiman, Joshua Burcham, and Jon Hicks have taken a big and solid concept, completely tore it apart, and repackaged the original idea in an executable format. ChowNow went from what the team…
